Ten Ways to Create Magic in Your Life

When life throws you a rainy day, play in the puddles.”
- unknown author

There are many examples of people who, at the end of their lives, say that their biggest regret is that they wished that they had let themselves be happier. At the end of their lives, they realized that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in their family patterns and habits, pretending, but not being true to themselves.

Why wait until you're on your deathbed? Make the decision today to let yourself enjoy your life more. Here are a few ways to help you start a new habit:

  1. When you wake up, take a moment in bed and set an intention about how you want to show up that day. Make sure you in some way speak to the idea of enjoying yourself throughout your day.
  2. Before you get out of bed, think of one thing you feel grateful for already.
  3. Tell at least two people (more if you want) something that you appreciate about them at some point during your day.
  4. Take at least five minutes at some point in the day to just 'be' and simply enjoy being. You might be sitting, walking, standing at a window, eating...but put yourself on pause, stop problem solving or doing anything else, and allow yourself a few moments to breathe, relax, and enjoy being alive.
  5. Throughout the day, breathe more than you ordinarily do. Take some deep breaths into your belly, enjoy the exhale, and then go back to breathing normally.
  6. Take a few moments each day to think about something that you did, thought, started, finished, attempted, etc. that you feel good about.
  7. Do a tiny, special thing for someone you love that is easy for you to do so it doesn't feel like a chore but an honor.
  8. Write or call someone you haven't connected with in a long time just to check in.
  9. Give yourself the gift of asking yourself how you're doing throughout the day. Are you thirsty? Does your body want to stretch? Do you want to go outside for a few minutes? Listen to the simple requests of your body and let yourself follow them a few times a day.
  10. Do one thing each day that stretches you at least a tiny bit. Reward yourself after seven days of taking tiny risks. Your reward can simply be an 'Ata boy!' or 'Go girl!' It need not cost money or be a big deal. But it is important to acknowledge your little successes. You give yourself a shot of dopamine each time you do so.

If you do even one of these each day for 21 days, you'll see changes happen inside you. Your perspective will start shifting. It will become easier to see the good in things rather than what isn't working. It isn't magic like Rumpelstiltskin, but it feels as if it has magic of its own in that your internal viewer starts seeing the world differently.

Enjoy and please write in.
