Characteristics of Your Angel

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won't feel insecure around you....
And as we let our light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.”
- Marianne Williamson, Return to Love

Developing your inner coach/angel is the best way to help yourself let your light shine.

Directions:

Before starting, get paper and pen, then sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes.

  1. Begin to reflect on people in your life who have supported you. How did you know that they believed in you and wanted the best for you? How did they treat you? What did they say to you? How did they look at you, touch you, speak with you?
  2. Open your eyes and write down these characteristics.
  3. Close your eyes again and reflect on how you would like to be treated when you get worried, stressed, unhappy, etc. Think of all kinds of situations that bother you and imagine exactly how you would like to be treated in those circumstances.
  4. Open your eyes and write down these characteristics.
  5. This time when you close your eyes, imagine that there is a character in you who can speak with you and treat you just as you imagined. Play out some scenes in your head and rehearse the kind of voice and the content you would like to hear yourself say to yourself.
  6. Practice it for several different kinds of situations, allowing yourself to speak out loud if you want. Say your name also. For example, you might say, “Judi, I know you can do it. Take a deep breath and be patient with yourself.” Research has shown that self-talk using your own name helps you take it in and take the advice.
  7. Write a brief description of how this activity was for you.
  8. Repeat it a few times each week. You will start developing a more robust and vital angel character.

Have fun and as usual, write in about your experience.
